OtisThe Penguin Players Proudly Present Otis

THREE shows!
Tuesday, May 15: 10:30 am at the Eastgate Branch
2:30 pm at the Northgate Branch
Wednesday, May 16: 10:30 am at the Downtown Library

Presented by The Penguin Players from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Playhouse, the 20-minute performance is an adaptation of “Otis,” written and illustrated by Loren Long.

The performance tells a poignant story of friendship and perseverance. Otis, a loving, hard working and playful tractor gets replaced by a new big yellow tractor, and is put behind the barn to rust. But when his best friend, a little calf, gets stuck in Mud Pond, Otis saves the day and his best friend.

The TumbleBooks LibraryNew Children's Resource!

The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books). TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books which we have licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format. This service includes steaming audio and animation (viewed over the Internet connection) as well as, with the installation of the free TumblePad software, downloadable audio and animation (can be viewed later on a computer, or netbook.).

TumbleBook Readables

TumbleReadables is an additional collection of interactive chapter books for school-age children, from early readers to teens, that can be read online. Each title has reading levels and accelerated reading values to help you choose the best books for your child.  Many of the books have quizzes and lesson plans to correspond with the story.  Read-Alongs are perfect for beginner and reluctant readers, as well as ESL students. Strong readers will find TumbleReadables a fun way to reinforce their reading skills.

AudioBook Cloud is an online audio book library collection of streaming audio books for public libraries. Patrons have UNLIMITED remote access to this audio book collection. Audio titles are never all checked out, never on hold. As many people can listen to the same book at the same time as you like!!!

Come See Our Read Aloud Mural

There's something new inside the Storyroom: a treehouse! It's the centerpiece of our new Read Aloud mural which covers about half of the curved wall inside the Storyroom.

The mural, painted by artist Gale Hinton, was donated to the Children's Department by Read Aloud Chattanooga, an independent learning motivation initiative whose primary goal is "to dramatically increase the incidence and quality of reading aloud to our youngest children."

Children and parents will be delighted by scenes of children reading, by the backdrop of hills and rivers, and by the tiny little ants hidden all over the painting, doing things like waterskiing, having storytime, and more. To view pictures of this beautiful mural, click here. Or, better yet, come in and see it in person!

Latest: Thanks to Read Aloud Chattanooga, Northgate now has a fabulous mural in their Storyroom! To view pictures, click here.
