To return books after hours, we now have two book drops available should one become full. The new one has a small sign reading "Book Depository" and is positioned on the sidewalk near the old one.

Preschool Story Hour

Tuesdays, 10:30 am & 2:30 pm

 

Children should be 3 to 5 years old and able to attend the story hour on their own. Parents should be nearby in the library. No registration is required. Check the Children's Programs page for more information.

Adventure Club

Wednesdays, 4:00 pm

Adventure Club allows children the opportunity to develop their imaginations through book-related activities. Activities are designed for children ages 6 to 10. Younger children are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by an adult.

Eastgate Page Turners Book Club

If you want to meet new people and discover interesting books – resolve to join the Eastgate Page Turners (book club) for 2012. In this order, the books to be read for the next three months are: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot; The Custom of the Country, by Edith Wharton; and Midaq Alley, by Naguib Mahfouz. Discussions are held at the Eastgate Branch of the Chattanooga Library on the third Saturday of each month (unless otherwise indicated) at 11:00 a.m. The first date of the New Year is January 21, 2012 – See you there.


eReader Workshop

The Chattanooga Public Library, in partnership with Best Buy and Friends of the Library, will conduct workshops to teach patrons how to download library eBooks onto their eReaders. The first class will be held at the Eastgate at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28. Among the eReader devices that will be covered are Kindles, Nooks, and Apple tablets.

Registration is required and a refundable $5 deposit must be made to hold a reservation. Library card holders have the option of placing their deposit on their library card accounts. At the end of the class, these guests will be given a certificate to remove the $5 charge. Reservations may be made in person at the library branch or by calling 757-5310.


Here's What Really Happened

Events in Black History That Don't Make the History Books

Mr. T.R. Gunn, noted broadcaster, journalist and educator, will present a glimpse into his upcoming documentary, "Here's What Really Happened," on Saturday, February 11, from 2:30 - 4 pm at the Eastgate Public Library. Audience members will be engaged and entertained by a selection of Gunn's fascinating stories. A reception with light refreshments will follow the program.


Eastgate Bookmarkers

Become a "friend" of The Public Library - Eastgate and help support your branch. The Eastgate Bookmarkers help with book sales and fundraising events, develop promotions within the library and are involved with planning for the branch's future. If you would like to become a Bookmarker, please sign up at the circulation desk, or call 855-2689.

The Eastgate Bookmarkers run an on-going book sale within the Eastgate branch. This shelf of books for purchase is located just inside the front doors. Hardback books are $2 and paperbacks sell for $1. All proceeds are used by the Bookmarkers to support the Eastgate branch.

The Eastgate Library will show free movies on Saturdays at 2:30 pm. Snacks and drinks in closed containers are permitted in the movie room.
