Diary of a Country PriestFilms From the '50s
Diary of a Country Priest

A sick young priest in his first parish struggles with his faith while addressing the hostility and apathy of his rural congregation. It is a beautiful study of faith and love.

Read more about the new series . The café setting allows movie patrons a relaxed comfortable seating arrangement.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for coffee and desserts.  Films will begin at 6:30 p.m. after Mr. Clapp gives the audience a film review and the reasons he selected the film for inclusion in the Director’s Cuts series.

Flick's Cafe admission is free of charge. Desserts and coffee will be priced separately. All proceeds will be used to buy new materials for the library’s Fine Arts collection.

Anime @ the Library

Gurran Lagann

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library features free anime favorites for everyone. These are usually in the Downtown Library Auditorium at 2:30pm on a Saturday early in the month. Check back to confirm the exact dates. Some new titles for summer 2009 are Bleach, Flag, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Gurren Lagann. Coming soon to our collection: Paprika, Death Note, School Rumble, Ghost Hunt, Gurren Lagann, Flag, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Ponyo.

Learn about our anime club. Meet other fans! Bring snacks to share! Cosplay is welcome. There will be art tables and displays. Sponsored by Tokyo Tower Radio Show and Morning Glory Store. If you have questions or you have work or collections that you would like to display, please call the library at 423-757-5310.

Civil War Camp

Genealogy Classes  

Beginning Genealogy Workshops

Presented by Mary Helms, Head Librarian, of the Local History and Genealogy Department and designed specifically for beginners, this one-time introductory class covers the basics of genealogical research and the resources available at the library. Topics include gathering family information, using genealogical forms, accessing vital records, using indexes to locate census records, finding state, county, and local records, and locating military records. Instruction is given on using the library catalog. The Library offers Ancestry Library Edition, HeritageQuest Online, Footnote, NewEnglandAncestors.org, and Sanborn Maps for library patrons.  The use of these and other genealogical databases on the Internet will be included.

Below are the dates and times for the scheduled classes. Pre-registration is required. For additional information and to pre-register, call 423-757-5310 and ask for the branch where you will attend the class. A $3.00 fee is charged to cover the cost of the handouts.
